Expired Website Domain name External Redemption Fee...?

I've tried to get back a web domain that expired several months ago from godaddy,

Inorder to have it reclaimed. I'm told to pay an External Redemption Fee of $180.

This website was not for a business or anything like that but a personal one with little or no traffic.

I'm wondering if this fee lowers or disappears with time? as I'm not really prepared to pay that much money, but then again I liked that domain name.

Any ideas would help.

thanks.

Don't buy it. Godaddy registers the name themselves if they expire in order to sell it back to people.

I doubt they will hold on to it more than a year or so, then you can just re-register it again.
